WORLD CULTURES: FINAL ESSAY QUESTIONS

WORLD CULTURES STUDENTS:

I'm so sorry I haven't been able to post up the final essay questions sooner. Our car got broken into on Friday night and a lot of things got stolen so we've been dealing with that mess for the past few days. Because I've posted these up just today, I am willing to let you hand them in on or before FRIDAY, MAY 20TH. Remember that you are required to use the MLA format for writing this essay. We discussed this in class and I will also be including some internet sources to further detail and explain these specifications. ASSIGNMENTS HANDED IN NOT IN MLA FORMAT WILL HAVE 10 POINTS TAKEN OFF THEIR ASSIGNMENT'S GRADE.

You may be surprised that there are not more discussion questions, but this is due to the fact that these questions are very complex and can be elaborated and analyzed enough to provide for more than your 2 page limit.

Good luck and if you have any questions feel free to write me.

REMEMBER TO CITE YOUR SOURCES USING THE MLA REFERENCE FORMAT AS WELL! Otherwise, you may fail at your final paper because of plagiarism.

Here are the questions:

1) Why do you think the film's title is "Babel"? What does the name refer to and what is it allegorical/metaphorical for? How does the title relate to the events that occur in the film, LITERALLY and SYMBOLICALLY?

2) How does the movie relate to the cultural interactions, stereotypes, and reactions to stereotypes and prejudicial judgments we have discussed all semester? Give examples from the film (scenes, quotes, etc.)
